Materials: What Goes Into a ZenWuxiang Piece
Sterling Silver: The Foundation
Every ZenWuxiang piece is crafted from 925 sterling silver — an alloy of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper, the standard for fine silver jewelry worldwide. This composition gives the metal its characteristic luster, durability, and workability, while remaining gentle enough for daily wear against the skin.
Sterling silver carries deep significance in Tibetan tradition. Silver is considered a lunar metal — associated with clarity, intuition, and protective energy. It is believed to amplify the properties of any stones it holds and to carry the intentions of its maker.
Natural Stones
Where our designs call for stones, we use only natural, untreated materials selected for their quality and energetic properties:
- Turquoise — One of the most sacred stones in Tibetan culture. Associated with protection, healing, and good fortune. Our turquoise is sourced for its characteristic blue-green color and natural matrix patterns.
- Coral — Traditionally used in Tibetan jewelry as a symbol of life force and vitality. We use natural coral in deep red and orange tones.
- Lapis Lazuli — The deep blue stone of wisdom and truth, used in Tibetan art for centuries. Associated with the third eye and spiritual insight.
- Amber — Fossilized tree resin prized for its warm golden tones and protective properties. Often used in prayer beads and amulets.
- Onyx & Obsidian — Deep black stones used for grounding and protection. A staple of protective talisman jewelry.
Red String
The red string used in our Red String Collection is made from natural cotton thread, dyed in the traditional deep red associated with protection and good fortune in both Chinese and Tibetan culture. The string is hand-knotted and finished with sterling silver components.
Care & Longevity
Sterling silver develops a natural patina over time — a gentle darkening that many wearers find adds character and depth. To maintain the original luster:
- Store pieces in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight
- Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying lotions and perfumes
- Polish gently with a soft silver cloth when needed
- Avoid contact with harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners
With proper care, a ZenWuxiang piece will last a lifetime — and beyond.
